Rolls Royce Museum
The Rolls-Royce Museum on the Gütle parcel in the municipality of Dornbirn in Vorarlberg is geared towards the early days of the brand, when each vehicle was unique.
Origin of the collection
Franz Vonier, born in St. Gallenkirch in Montafon, and his wife Hilde Vonier founded a Rolls-Royce repair shop in Klaus in 1968 and built up a collection of vehicles from 1923 to 1939. The three sons Ferdinand , Johannes and Bernhard Vonier played a key role in the further expansion.
In 1999, the Vonier family made this automobile collection generally accessible when the museum opened.
Scope and focus of the collection
At the peak of the collection, there were around 100 original Rolls-Royce vehicles as exhibits, as well as hundreds of original components, accessories, pictures and literature. Some of the vehicles are ready to drive and are also used (to a limited extent) as loans for special events and trips.
Museum (1999-2017)
The building now houses the Rolls-Royce car museum is in the, the former spinning mill of FM Hammerle , stands near the entrance to the Rappenlochschlucht , at the foot of Dornbirn local mountain carts . The museum was housed in the spinning mill building from 1862, which was closed in 1992, spread over three floors and displayed the entire collection of vehicles over a large area.
Museum today
For some time after the death of the museum's founder, Franz Vonier, in May 2017, two Rolls-Royce exhibitions have been offered in the Gütle. A son of Franz Vonier runs the previous, larger, museum under the name: Rolls Royce Automobile Museum and two other sons run a smaller exhibition under the previous name: Rolls Royce Museum .
Both museums continue to show all significant developments from the Rolls-Royce period between 1925 and 1939 - the core of the Vonier family's collection. The Rolls Royce Automobile Museum is still located at the previous location, the new, smaller museum ( Rolls Royce Museum ) is located in the first building at the entrance to the Gütle industrial area . The building was extensively renovated for this purpose and conveys the style of the 1920s and 1930s. The unique items can be admired and photographed without barriers. Digital and print media also help to immerse yourself in the past. In the in-house restoration workshop you can get an insight into old craftsmanship.
