Roman Frister
Roman Frister (born January 17, 1928 in Bielitz , Poland ; † February 9, 2015 in Warsaw ) was a Polish-Israeli journalist and writer .
Life
Frister was born into a German-speaking Jewish family of lawyers, with whom he had a happy childhood until 1939. With the beginning of the Second World War , the family began to flee from the National Socialists .
At the age of 13, Frister was arrested with his parents in Krakow . There his mother was murdered by SS man Wilhelm Kunde. He suffered from the Starachowice concentration camps , where his father died of typhus , then Auschwitz and Mauthausen, and survived death marches . When he was liberated, he suffered from malnutrition and tuberculosis . He worked as a journalist in Poland until he emigrated to Israel in 1957 .
He also worked as a journalist and writer in Israel. In 1990 he took over the management of the Koteret Journalism School in Tel Aviv . Frister wrote novels , non-fiction books, and plays . His autobiography Die Mütze or The Price of Life caused a sensation with its relentless openness, as it particularly depicts the dark soul of the victims.
