Roman Graf von Sołtyk (* 1791 in Warsaw ; † October 24, 1843 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye ) was a Polish general .

He was the son of Reichstag Marshal Stanisław Sołtyk and Princess Karoline Sapieha , attended the polytechnic school in Paris , joined the foot artillery of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw in 1807 as a lieutenant and took part in its successful defense against an attack by Austria in 1809 .

Appointed to the General Staff of Napoleon I as adjutant to General Michał Sokolnicki in 1812 , he commanded the Saxons in the Battle of Leipzig and was captured by the Allies when they passed. Free again, he left military service and opened an iron store in Warsaw. From 1822 he participated in the secret political societies.

After the outbreak of the revolution on November 29, 1830, he went to Warsaw , became general commander of the four voivodships on the right bank of the Vistula, and organized 47,000 mobile national guards here. At the Reichstag he unsuccessfully applied for the deposition of Emperor Nicholas I and was responsible for declaring the sovereignty of the people on January 21, 1831.

During the siege of Warsaw by the Russians, the commander of the artillery in the city, he resisted Krukowiecki's surrender and held out until the last moment, then went with the army to Płock and took over a mission to England and France to get one To seek mediation of these powers for Poland.

In exile he wrote the Précis historique, politique et militaire de la révolution du 29 novembre (Paris 1833, 2 vols .; German edited by Elsner, Stuttgart 1834) and Napoléon en 1812 (Paris 1836; German, Wesel 1837).
