Roman Töppel

Roman Töppel (born January 31, 1976 in Bautzen ) is a German historian and author . Töppel became internationally known for his work on the Battle of the Kursk Arch in 1943.

Life

Roman Töppel was born in 1976 in Bautzen, the son of an organ builder and a bespoke tailor. After finishing school in Neustadt / Saxony and Frankfurt am Main and completing military service, Töppel studied modern history, medieval history and political science at the TU Dresden from 1996 to 2001 . In 2007 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Saxony in the Napoleonic period. At the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich Töppel was 2012-2015 part of the historian team that the critical commented edition of Hitler's " Mein Kampf developed". In 2016, this edition was awarded the science prize of the donors' association “Society needs science”. His book on the Battle of Kursk, published in 2017, was translated into English, French, Russian and Spanish in 2018. Current research focuses on Nazi ideology and Nazi propaganda , the history of the Waffen SS , the history of operations from 1939 to 1945 and the historiography of World War II.

Töppel is married and lives and works as a freelance historian in Munich.
