Romano Božac

Romano Božac (born June 25, 1942 in Matiki near Žminj , Istria , Italy ; † February 27, 2020 in Zagreb , Croatia ) was a Yugoslav and Croatian mycologist .

Life

Božac had been employed at the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Zagreb since 1969 , and since 2000 as a full professor . In addition to mushroom studies, he also dealt with the processing and fermentation of meat there.

In 2006 he founded the Croatian Mycological Association ( Hrvatski mikološki-gljivarski Savez ), of which he was chairman from 2006 to 2010. In 2013 he opened the Mushroom Museum ( Muzej gljiva ) in Zagreb.

He was the first to describe 53 species of mushrooms.
