Romanus Vogler

Romanus Vogler also Roman Vogler , (* 1636 in Engen ; † November 17, 1695 in St. Blasien ) was abbot of the St. Blasien monastery in the Black Forest from February 24, 1672 to 1695 . In 1677, after taking Friborg, he temporarily fled to Switzerland in the Wislikofen priory, which was completed during his reign .

He studied at the Germanicum from 1656 to 1659. The War of the Palatinate Succession falls during his term of office , but his construction activity shows some new buildings, such as the churches in Grießen, Münchingen, Brenden, Brunnadern and Dillendorf. He had the Adelheid cross re -framed with 1,300 precious stones, including 172 diamonds , 130 emeralds and other such stones, for which he had the artists come to St. Blasien in order not to have to give the cross out of hand. However, the new gem setting was only completed under his successor. The silver votive plaque, which was made possible by Duke Karl V with a donation of 2000 Reichsthaler in the course of the transition of the imperial army over the Black Forest , the Todtmoos antependium for the pilgrimage church Todtmoos , he had designed by the Rottweiler painter Johann Friedrich Georg Glückher and through the Augsburg goldsmith Elias Jäger .

On May 16, 1688, he celebrated the laying of the foundation stone of the Villingen Benedictine Church together with Abbot Georg III. Gaißer, of the St. Georgen Monastery in the Black Forest .
