Romeo Borbach

Romeo Borbach (born August 9, 1938 in Zurich ) is a jazz musician and composer from the Swiss canton of Zurich . In addition to his main instrument, the piano , he also plays the guitar and bass violin .

Musical career

Borbach enjoyed eight years of classical piano training. By his older brother discovered jazz and began as a self-taught , gospel and old jazz replay. He founded a gospel double quartet and played in a band. Since 1962 he was the band leader with The Saints Jazz Band . From 1965 to 1970 he was a member and arranger of the City Jazz Group and was nicknamed Swing . Since 1998 he has played in the southern German Black Forest Jazz Band and since 2000 with the Zurich All Stars , with whom he has released several albums.

One of his specialties is boogie-woogie with his own compositions. The best known was the song "Wiit weg" (Far away), in which Borbach tells the story of the bank robber Emil in Zurich dialect, sometimes as spoken chant .

Occasionally he helps out in various jazz bands and accompanies traditional country music with the string bass .

Professional

As a primary school teacher, he taught for decades at the school of the Brüschhalde children's home in Männedorf .
