The Saints Jazz Band

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Saints Jazz Band is the name of an old-time jazz band from the Swiss canton of Zurich that was founded in 1952 .

The band leader was René Borel, who also played the clarinet and saxophone . His teammates were Marc Clemann ( trumpet ), Fritz Steiner (clarinet), Fredi Hausheer ( piano ), Hans Marro ( banjo ), Peter Fischer ( tuba ) and Pietro Rossi ( drums ). They were all crazy about jazz.

As a result of various personnel changes, the formation, which was allowed to perform at the Télévision Monte Carlo in Monaco in 1956, threatened to end after ten years. Personnel stability only arose after Romeo Borbach joined the band as a pianist in 1962. Shortly afterwards, he replaced René Borel as band leader. From 1963 the trumpeter Otto Andrae and the clarinetist Jürg Maurer also played.

The 2015 line-up: Otto Andrae, trumpet, Ernst Bigler , Trombone, Paul Tantanini clarinet and alto saxophone, Romeo Borbach, piano and bandleader, Rolf Winiger, double bass and Eugen Weber, drums.
