Štefan Romuald Hadbavný OSBCam (born November 10, 1714 in Machalovce , † August 30, 1780 in the Lechnica Monastery ) was a Slovak Camaldolese monk .
Act
Father Hadbavný worked as the economic administrator of the Lechnica Monastery in the Pienines , he was also the monastery archivist. He also dealt with botany, philology, history and linguistics.
Hadbavný is considered (especially) in older research as the author of the oldest surviving translation of the entire Bible into Slovak; this is known as the Camaldolese Bible . Similarly, it is controversial whether Hadbavný is the author of the handwritten manuscript of a dictionary of the Latin and Slovak languages " Syllabus dictionarii latino / slavonicus " from 1763.
As a translator of Louis de Blois ' sacred songs , he also made them accessible to the Slovak people.
