Romy Camerun

Romy Camerun (* 1964 ), grew up in Dorsten, is a German jazz singer and pianist . She lives in Bremen and teaches at the Hanover University of Music and Drama , at the Folkwang University in Essen (Department I, jazz / singing) and at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (jazz singing, didactics, jazz ensemble).

Career

Romy Camerun took piano lessons at the age of five. After gaining her first experience as a choir singer, she sang in the band "Madrugada" while still at school. While she initially sang the blues , she soon turned to jazz . She was the winner of " Jugend jazzt NRW " (Dortmund) and a prizewinner at the WDR competition "Stadtmusik" (Cologne) and reached the semifinals of the "Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition" in Washington, DC in 1994. After her first CD "Bridges" ( 1994) she recorded a live CD with Clark Terry , for which Jörg Achim Keller contributed the arrangements. She also worked with Peter Herbolzheimer , with the hr big band and the Siggi Gerhard Swingtett , but also with Charlie Mariano and Uli Beckerhoff . She also gives solo concerts.
