Ron Markus

Ron Markus (born January 5, 1974 in Regensburg ) is a German screenwriter , film producer and novelist . He was awarded the Grimme Prize for his work as a writer on the TV series Stromberg and nominated for the Grimme Prize for the TV series Other Parents . He wrote for the multiple award-winning television series Bad Banks and worked as a writer and / or producer for crime television series such as Last Trace Berlin and Flemming .

Career

Ron Markus comes from a family of humanities scholars. His father Manfred Markus was a professor of English at the University of Innsbruck, his mother a teacher. His brother Dirk Markus is the founder and chairman of the Aurelius investment group. Ron Markus grew up in Germany, Austria and the USA, studied business administration at the University of Cologne and graduated with honors. During his studies he did an internship for the management consultancy McKinsey & Company .

After completing his studies, Markus worked for Virgin Records Germany. As International Product Manager, he led the Genesos group's Turn it on Again album to number one in the German album charts. In 2002 Markus decided to pursue a career as a screenwriter and producer. He studied screenwriting at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and completed a one-year Writers' Program at UCLA in Los Angeles, where he also worked as an assistant for the film distribution company Menemsha Films, which specializes in Jewish films. Specialist journalist Tilmann P. Gangloff wrote about his screenplay for the ZDF comedy Wachgeküsst : "Screenwriter Ron Markus [...] tells his story with a lot of love for his characters and always plausibly."

In addition to his work as a filmmaker, he published the satirical novel Romance for Beginners for Kiepenheuer & Witsch . Markus teaches scriptwriting at the University of Television and Film Munich and was a guest in Germany's most famous rhetoric podcast by Birgit Schürmann.
