Ronald Jean Jumeau (born January 24, 1957 in Dar es Salaam , Tanganyika ) is a journalist , politician and diplomat of the Seychelles , who was Minister several times and between 2007 and 2012 Permanent Representative and Ambassador of the Seychelles to the United Nations and has held this office again since 2017 .

Life

Journalist, cabinet secretary and party official

Jumeau took up after his secondary education at Seychelles College 1975 first a job as a journalist and 1978 was a reporter for the press office of the government (Government Information Services) . From 1980 to 1982 he was editor-in-chief at the state news agency Seychelles Agence Presse and from 1980 to 1983 correspondent for the London- based Reuters news agency for the Seychelles. In 1982 he became editor-in-chief of the government-loyal newspaper Seychelles Nation and at the same time editor-in-chief of the state news agency Seychelles Agence Presse . He also taught journalism at the Faculty of Media Studies at Seychelles Polytechnic between 1986 and 1989 and was press advisor to the Ministry of Education from 1991 to 1993.

Jumeau was then appointed Secretary of the Cabinet by President France-Albert René in 1992 and, in personal union, Research Director in the Presidential Office and Secretary of the Advisory Committee for the National Economy, and held these functions until 1998. He is a member of the Progress Front of the Seychelles People, SPPF, founded by René (Seychelles People's Progressive Front) and its delegate to the First and Second Constitutional Commissions of the Seychelles in both 1992 and 1993. He also served as secretary of four inter-ministerial cabinet committees between 1994 and 1998 and was also responsible for government relations with the National Assembly from 1995 to 1998 . In 1995 he became a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the SPPF.

Minister and Ambassador

In 1998, Jumeau was appointed Minister for Agriculture and Marine Resources in his government by President René and held this office until 1999. In the course of a cabinet reshuffle, he served as Minister for Culture and Information from 2000 to September 2001 and, after a new government reform, between September 2001 and 2003 as environment minister in the René cabinet. In the government of René's successor James Alix Michel, he was Minister for Environment and Natural Resources from 2004 to August 2007.

In August 2007, Jumeau was appointed Permanent Representative and Ambassador of the Seychelles to the United Nations by President Michel and on June 23, 2007 he presented his letter of accreditation to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon . He held this office until 2012, during which time he was also accredited as ambassador of the Seychelles to the USA , Canada , Brazil , Cuba and the other Caribbean states . He then stayed in New York City and served as Seychelles' ambassador for climate change and small developing island affairs between 2012 and 2017 .

In 2017, Jumeau was once again appointed Permanent Representative and Ambassador of the Seychelles to the United Nations by the new President Danny Faure and presented his letter of accreditation to UN Secretary General António Guterres on May 3, 2017 .

Jumeau is divorced and has one child.
