Ronald Unsworth

Ronald Thomas "Ron" Unsworth (born November 8, 1923 in Ashton-under-Lyne , Tameside , Greater Manchester , † December 23, 2008 ) was a British athlete.

Life

Unsworth studied history at the University of Manchester from 1942 to 1948, interrupted by his military service in Burma . During his student days he played rugby and soccer and was president of his university's athletics association. He continued to hold this office until 2004 after completing his studies.

In 1948 he started for Great Britain at the Olympic Games in London in the 400 m hurdles. In his preliminary run he finished third with a personal best of 55.1 seconds, which was not enough to qualify for the semi-finals.
