The Roppener Tunnel is a two-tube road tunnel on the Inntal A12 motorway in the Tyrolean Oberland . It is 5095 (north tube) and 5079 meters (south tube) long.

The tunnel crosses under the steep southern slope of the Tschirgant with a maximum mountain overlap of approx. 500 m. It is used to bypass the narrow Imster Gorge and to relieve the communities of Karrösten , Karres and Roppen .

Since the opening of the first tube in 1990, there have been a number of problems and accidents with this tunnel, which often led to traffic jams. In July 2006, construction of the second (southern) tunnel tube began. This was opened to traffic on September 23, 2009. The existing pipe was renovated by the end of 2010 and adapted to the new safety standards. Both tubes were opened to traffic on December 17, 2010.

In 2011, an average of 19,212 vehicles passed the tunnel per day, around 23% of which were trucks.

The St. Jakob am Arlberg tunnel control center must close the tunnel for special transports from a width of 3.26 m. Height control 4.50 m. ASFINAG Alpenstraßen GmbH is responsible for the tunnel . When the tunnel is closed, traffic will be diverted via the B171 Tiroler Straße .
