Rory Enrique Conde (born June 14, 1965 in Barranquilla , Colombia ) aka "The Tamiami Strangler" is a serial killer who was sentenced to death in 1994 and 1995 and murdered six people in the United States .

Life

Conde was born to his parents' second child. When he was six months old, his mother died of tetanus and he was adopted by his grandmother. At the age of two, his father left the family, leaving him and his sister alone. Ten years later he moved with his sister to the United States and settled in Florida , where he married a 15-year-old in 1987 and had two children with her. But since he was often violent and met with prostitutes, she left him and took the two children with her.

His series of murders began on September 15, 1994 when he was dating an alleged prostitute and discovered that he was dealing with the 27-year-old transvestite Lazaro Comensana. Out of anger, he cursed Comensana and then strangled him. By January 10, 1995, he raped and strangled the five prostitutes Elisa Martinez (44), Charity Nava (23), Wanda Crawford (38), Necole Schneider (28) and Rhonda Dunn (21) in Miami .

His seventh victim, whom he briefly left alone in his apartment on January 19, 1995, managed to attract attention through noise, whereupon Conde was arrested that same day. On March 7, 2000, he was sentenced to death for the murder of Rhonda Dunn, who was found dead in his home. Through DNA traces and confessions, the five other murders that had not yet been clarified could be proven to him, which is why he received an additional five life sentences on April 3, 2001.

He is still awaiting execution in Florida prison today.
