Kate has moved from the city to the country with her pubescent son Pete to live with 30-year-old Dan, but Kate quickly realizes that country life is simply not her world, and a passionate argument, too leads to the separation of the two, ignites. Pete tells his mother that he wants to stay with his stepfather, he has grown too fond of him over time. Meanwhile, Kate moves into a small town apartment where she takes over the pub for her pregnant friend Jill. In the pub she meets the young surfer Caine Martin, who also takes her surfing with her and, as a surf beginner, lovingly explains every step to her. Dan also made a new acquaintance with gallery owner Helen Green when his car broke down. At night in the disco she meets her son Pete and Kate asks him to live with her from now on. She does not tolerate such behavior, and stepfather Dan has also given his consent. Kate likes Caine more and more, but when she brings herself and Caine into life-threatening circumstances on a trip to the stormy sea, Dan comes to their aid. The two make up and become a couple again.
