Rosario Salvatore Aitala

Rosario Salvatore Aitala (born September 24, 1967 ) is an Italian lawyer and judge at the International Criminal Court .

Live and act

Aitala studied law at the University of Catania from 1986 to 1991 . After graduating in 1994, after completing relevant training at the Court of Appeal in Catania, he was qualified to be a judge . He then worked as a senior officer at the police department in Pavia until 1997 , where he also acted as a lecturer in criminology. In 1995 he moved to the Milan Police Department and in the same year took over a chair in criminology at the Police Academy. In February 1997 Aitala became a judge at the Court of Appeal in Milan, where he specialized in the prosecution of corruption and mafia offenses and the protection of victims. In November 1998 he moved to the Trapani Public Prosecutor's Office as a public prosecutor , where he again mainly focused on combating the Mafia. In 2002 he obtained a postgraduate degree in international human rights protection from the University of Tor Vergata . From 2003 to 2007 he was finally director of the law enforcement department of PAMECA, an EU police commission in support of the police in Albania. In 2007 he taught back to Italy and became an advisor in the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs , and in 2010 he became chief advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, particularly on issues of organized crime and international terrorism. In 2013 he became chief advisor to the President of the Italian Senate .

Since 2006 he has also been teaching as a lecturer at the University of Naples II . He has also been an official judge in Italy since 1997, even though he has been seconded to other activities almost entirely since then. Aitala has been a judge at the International Criminal Court since March 11, 2018 .
