In the McCarthy era she was arrested while filming as an illegal immigrant and allegedly for alleged communist contacts, deported to Mexico and placed on the Hollywood blacklist . From 1957 to 1960 she lived in Germany. There she worked as a playwright for the Berliner Ensemble . Back in Mexico, she taught acting classes and wrote other plays before moving to Cuba for a while . After she was taken off the Hollywood blacklist, she starred in Mina, viento de libertad in 1976 , shortly afterwards also the role of Tía Licha in Lo Mejor de Teresa and in 1977 her last acting role in Balún Canán .
