The Roscoe Glacier is a 19 km long and between 5 and 8 km wide glacier in Queen Marie Land in East Antarctica . It flows from a small valley into the western section of the Shackleton Ice Shelf , which is reached between Cape Moyes and Junction Corner .
A team led by Frank Wild identified it as a sink in March 1912 during the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson . Aerial photographs of the US American Operation Highjump (1946–1947) were used to map it. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1955 after the US geographer John Hobbie Roscoe (1919-2007), who was involved in evaluating the aerial photographs of Operation Highjump and Operation Windmill (1947-1948), and head of the United States Antarctic Program and advised on the establishment of astronomical observation stations along the coasts of Kaiser Wilhelm II Land and Queen Marie Land as well as the Knox and Budd coast .
