Roscoe Chenier (born November 6, 1941 in Louisiana , † February 7, 2013 in Opelousas , Louisiana) was a singer and guitarist in the field of blues and rhythm and blues .

Roscoe Chenier was a great cousin of Zydeco musician Clifton Chenier and grew up in Louisiana, where he played in a band called Rockin 'CD & the Blues Runners as a teenager in 1957 . In 1959 he founded his first band; In 1961 he recorded the single Born for Bad Luck / Annie Mae's Yo-Yo for the Reynaud label . Chenier, stylistically influenced by BB King and Fats Domino , performed mainly in the state of Louisiana until the 1990s; It was not until 1993 that further recordings were made when he made an album for Avenue Jazz . In Europe, Chenier became known through his appearances from 1992 to 2001 at the Blues Estafette in the Netherlands; In 1994 he made guest appearances at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague and other blues festivals.
