Rose Lesser

Rose Lesser (born March 24, 1908 in Berlin ; † January 22, 2002 in Tokyo ) was a German author.

Life

Rose Lesser was born in Berlin and grew up in Hameln. In 1929 she emigrated to Japan. In 1933 she married the geobotanist Kenji Takahashi ( 高橋 健 治 ; 1903–1947). At first she worked at IG Farben in Kobe , at the Winckler & Co trading company in Nagoya, and with the director Arnold Fanck . Lesser was the founder of the Japanese-Korean Friendship Society. In 1956 she was honored by NHK for her efforts to achieve international understanding. She taught foreign languages ​​at Hōsei University and Nihon University in Tokyo. She was also the founder of More Joy, an NPO to promote mutual understanding and friendship among young people. She published several books about the Japanese mountains, snowy landscapes, the country and the people.

Her motto was: "Man has only two enemies: ignorance and indifference at home and outside."
