Rosemarie glasses

Rosemarie Gläser (born September 10, 1935 in Dresden ) is a German linguist . She was professor for English linguistics and specialist communication at the University of Leipzig .

Live and act

From 1954 to 1959 Rosemarie Gläser studied English , American , German and pedagogy at the University of Leipzig. After the state examination, she worked as a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for English and American Studies. In 1962 she received her doctorate in the field of lexicology of English.

In 1969 she completed her habilitation with a thesis on linguistic criteria of style description and was appointed university lecturer for the English language in the same year. In 1980 she received an extraordinary professorship for English in the Foreign Languages ​​section and in 1992 she was appointed to the Chair of Applied Linguistics / Specialized Communication at the university's newly founded Specialized Language Center.

In 1975 she founded the research group Technical Languages ​​of English , which is dedicated to the empirical analysis of subject-specific characteristics of English text corpora from various scientific disciplines. Together with her colleagues, she demonstrated the existence of text type styles and, based on this, described 35 specialist text types in English in her monograph published in 1990.

Glaser's research areas include English technical languages , stylistics , text linguistics , sociolinguistics , text typology , lexicology , phraseology , translation studies , pragmatics and onomastics .
