Rosemarie Lang (singer)

Rosemarie Lang (born May 21, 1947 in Grünstädtel ; † January 12, 2017 ) was a German opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Lang studied at the State University of Music in Leipzig with Elisabeth Breul , Eva Schubert-Hoffmann and Helga Forner . At the Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau in 1969 she won second prize, and at the J. S. Bach Competition in Leipzig in 1972 she won first prize ("Bach Prize Winner"), each in the category "Ladies singing".

She began her stage career at the Altenburg Theater , and from 1972 she was a member of the Leipzig Opera ensemble . In 1987 she moved to the Berlin State Opera . She made her debut there as Klytemnestra in Gluck's Iphigenie in Aulis . Until she retired from the stage for health reasons in 2009, she remained a member of the ensemble of the State Opera.

Guest performances have taken her to the Salzburg Festival and the Vienna State Opera . In addition to her operatic activities, she also practiced concert, lieder and oratorio singing. Numerous radio and vinyl recordings document her artistic activity.
