Rosie and the Goldbug was a British indie rock trio that announced their split in August 2009.

history

The band came from Cornwall . The "gold bug" in the band name went back to a story by Edgar Allan Poe ; Rosie was the first name of the singer and keyboard player.

According to The Guardian , singer Rosie Vanier grew up in Bodmin Moor on "property with no electricity, no heating, no television, just a piano." Her mother and father, who is partly of Indian descent, often went on bicycle tours across Europe, playing folk ballads to entertain passers-by. Vanier studied “pretentious jazz music” at Roehampton University in London . The guitarist, "Pixie", is the "son of hippie surfer parents who spent his childhood in a trailer on the beach." The drummer, "Plums", used to play with a Japanese drum ensemble.

Musically, the band combined electronics and rock; her style has been described as " Kate Bush on crack with Goldfrapp on the synthesizer "; Vanier's voice oscillates "effortlessly between seductive whispers and the screeching of a banshee ." According to the Scottish magazine Clash , the band was "one of the most important current names in the indie scene" in September 2008, with a "sexually charged" presentation: the drummer “Plums” was lesbian , Vanier was bisexual ; the guitarist was in a relationship with Vanier's sister.

The band toured in 2008 as opening act with Cyndi Lauper and released an album and several singles on their own label, Lover Records; the band has posted the music videos for their singles on their MySpace page.

In August 2009, the band announced on their MySpace page that they had broken up for unspecified reasons. Rosie Vanier announced her new project "Ruby Vamp" on the same page in October 2009.
