Ross Kauffman

Ross Kauffman (* 1967 or 1968 in London ) is a British documentary filmmaker . In 2005 he won an Oscar for his film Born in a brothel - Children in the red light district of Calcutta .

Life

Kauffman worked from 1992 to 2000 as a documentary filmmaker for television stations such as HBO and Discovery Channel . In 2001 he founded Red Light Films to produce the film Born in the Brothel - Children in Calcutta's Red Light District . For this film, he and Zana Briski won an Oscar in the Best Documentary Film category at the 2005 Academy Awards . The documentary about children of prostitutes in Calcutta has been presented at more than 50 international film festivals and has won numerous awards, including the National Board of Review Award , the Independent Spirit Award , the LACFA Award and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival .

His 2008 film In a Dream was shortlisted for an Oscar nomination.
