The Rosselló is a comarca of northern Catalonia in the south of France . The capital Perpignan ( Perpinyà in Catalan ) is also the most important city in Northern Catalonia.

The Rosselló and the other comarques in northern Catalonia were separated from the rest of Catalonia as a result of the Peace of the Pyrenees of 1659 and assigned to France. In the Ancien Régime they formed the province of Roussillon and since 1790 the department Pyrénées-Orientales , which belonged to the Languedoc-Roussillon region until the end of 2015 and has been part of the Occitania region since 2016 .
