Rossia is a genus of the dwarf squid family.

features

Rossia are small squids, the length of the coat of many species is less than 50 mm. The shell is reduced to a chitinous gladius . The coat is short, wide and bag-like. The posterior lobe of the fin is free, large and round. An ink sack is present and functional, the anal valves are well developed. There are 10 limbs around the mouth region, the suction cups are equipped with chitinous rings. The first two arms are hectocotyles . The suction cups in the middle of arms II and III are not enlarged very much. The clubs of the catch tentacles are widened with 6 to 12 suction cups in a row. An oral membrane is present. All the teeth of the radula have a single point.

distribution

The range includes the Arctic , the boreal Atlantic and Pacific as well as the tropical western Atlantic.

Habitat and way of life

Rossia are benthic dwarf squid that generally occur at depths greater than 50 m.
