Rosslyn is a district of the metropolitan municipality Tshwane in the South African province of Gauteng . It is located around 15 kilometers northwest of Pretoria .
geography
Two sub-places are officially managed: the Rosslyn district with 0.8 km² and 2960 inhabitants and Rosslyn Industrial with 11.57 km² and 217 inhabitants. Both sub-places belong to the main place Akasia .
history
To supply Rosslyn with cheap labor, the townships Ga-Rankuwa , Soshanguve and Mabopane were built for blacks during the apartheid period .
Economy and Infrastructure
Rosslyn is known for its industrial operations such as B. BMW South Africa , which was established as the first BMW plant outside Europe in 1970 by taking over an existing plant. There is also the Nissan South Africa plant .
Rosslyn is west of the R80 highway . The road R566 leads directly past the village in an east-west direction. Rosslyn is served by a stop on the Pretoria – de Wildt railway line on the Gauteng Metrorail . Numerous rail connections lead into the industrial area.
