The rust-red angle spider ( Tegenaria ferruginea , syn .: Malthonica ferruginea ), also called " house spider ", is a species from the genus of the angle spiders ( Tegenaria ) in the family of the funnel spiders (Agelenidae).

The German common name " house spider " is commonly used for many spiders of the genus Tegenaria and related genera (e.g. Eratigena ), which are also often found in houses. In addition to the rust-red angle spider, these are:

features

The females are 11 to 14 millimeters tall, the males 9 to 11 millimeters. Both have a reddish basic color and a clear, rust-red mark on the abdomen, which ends in jagged edges. In the front part of the abdomen there are large, light brown spots on both sides. The breast plate is constricted twice in the front area and has a lighter central stripe, which is flanked by four lighter spots. The legs of the rust-red angle spider are bristled and clearly ringed black and light brown. Due to the similar basic color, it can be confused with the wall angle spider .

Way of life

The rust-red angle spider lives mainly near the ground, in forests and in buildings. According to the World Spider Catalog , their range is Europe and the Azores ; in Venezuela it occurs as a neozoon . It has been proven everywhere in Central Europe , but according to Hänggi et al. to be found only occasionally.
