Roswitha Schmitz

Roswitha Schmitz , married Beyerinck (born December 28, 1957 ) is a former German table tennis player . She was one of the best players in Germany in the 1970s and won the German championship in doubles in 1977.

youth

Schmitz began her career at the Post SV Bonn in the early 1970s (since 2002 SSF Bonn). A little later she moved to SSV Hagen . In 1973 she won the International German Youth Championships in mixed with Peter Stellwag . In 1974 and 1975 she won the German youth championship in singles, and in 1974 in doubles with Birgit Lehr . In 1974 she was nominated for the European Youth Championship, in 1976 she took part in the National German Championship for adults for the first time.

Adults

In 1976 she returned to Bonn to the Olympia Bonn , a year later she joined the Weiß-Rot-Weiß Kleve .

In 1977 she became German champion in doubles with Kirsten Krüger in Berlin, and in singles she took third place. In the same year she was nominated as a substitute for the World Cup , but did not get a chance because all the regular players were ready for action. In April 1977 she took part in an unofficial international match against Japan in Siegen. Here she won and lost a singles, in doubles a victory succeeded.

With the women's team from Kleve, she won the ETTU Nancy Evans Cup in 1978/79 and the German championship in 1979/80. In 1980 she was third in doubles at the German championship with Jutta Trapp , and in 1983 she reached the mixed final with Wilfried Lieck .

Seniors

Schmitz-Beyerinck won a few titles at the German senior championships. In the age group over 40, she won doubles with Monika Kneip in 2000 , and a year later she won the singles title.

Private

In the late 1970s, Roswitha married Schmitz and then performed under the name Beyerinck . She has lived in Kleve since the end of 1980. She has a son (* 1981).
