Kirsten Krüger (table tennis player)

Kirsten Krüger (born March 26, 1955 in Oldenbüttel ) is a German table tennis player . In the 1970s and early 1980s she was one of the best German players. She is five times German champion in doubles and three times vice champion in singles.

Youth and first successes

Kirsten Krüger has been playing table tennis since she was ten. She joined the TTC Lehe association. Here she achieved her first successes in 1972 when she won the title in doubles with U.Dürre at the German youth championship; in the individual she took second place, also in the mixed with Heinz-Günther Hoffmann. In the same year she also won the top-12 national ranking tournament for young people, with Heinz-Günther Hoffmann she became vice European champion in mixed.

In 1972 Krüger moved to the TTC Ramsharde club , with whom she won the German Cup in 1974. In 1975 she joined TSV Nord Harrislee. Here she began in the national league and after several promotions reached the Bundesliga in 1978 . In 1975 she won the German Cup with Harrislee.

National successes

At the national German championships she took second place three times in the individual: 1979 and 1989 behind Ursula Hirschmüller-Kamizuru , in 1984 behind Susanne Wenzel . She awarded the title in 1979 when she was already leading 20:15 in the decisive third set and then lost. She was German champion in doubles in 1977 (with Roswitha Schmitz ) and 1979 to 1982 with Ursula Hirschmüller-Kamizuru . In mixed she reached second place with Klaus Schmittinger in 1977 .

She won the national ranking tournament DTTB-TOP-12 three times, namely in 1973, 1981 and 1982, three times came in second place (1975, 1978, 1985). In 1983 she was ranked 1st in the DTTB ranking .

From 1979 she played at the Bundesliga club TSV Kronshagen. The other stations were Kiel TTK (from 1981; 1983 German Cup Champion), Reinickendorfer Füchse (from 1985), FC Langweid (from 1991), Kiel TTK (from 1993), TSB Flensburg (from 1996), Kaltenkirchener Turnerschaft (from 2004) and TTC Ramsharde (from 2007) (men's team in the association league). With TSV Kronshagen she won the German team cup in 1980, with Reinickendorfer Füchsen she was German runner-up in 1987/88.

International success

From 1973 to 1984 Krüger made 93 international matches. She took part in world championships five times : World Cup 1973 , World Cup 1977 , World Cup 1979 , World Cup 1981 and World Cup 1983 . It achieved its best placement in 1981 when the German women's team came in 5th.

Between 1976 and 1984 she was represented five times at European championships : In 1978 she caused a sensation when she won the team competition against the reigning European champion Jill Hammersley and against Maria Alexandru . In 1982 she came with the team to the final, in 1984 she reached the quarter-finals in singles. In the European ranking tournament Europe TOP-12 , she was ranked 7th in 1983, 10th in 1984 and 11th in 1985.

Shortly before the 1985 World Cup, for which she was already nominated, she announced her resignation from the national team.

Senior Championships

Krüger competed repeatedly in senior championships. In 2006 she won the German championship senior women 40 in singles and doubles in Mölln. In the same year she even became world champion of seniors in the age group 50 in Bremen, in doubles she was second with Monika Kneip . In 2008 she won gold in doubles (with Annie Ramberg, DEN) in the 50+ class, and third in singles.

trainer

Kirsten Krüger teaches table tennis to schoolchildren and young people. Since 2002 she has been working as a national coach for the physically handicapped. Today she works with the youth from TSB Flensburg and plays in the first men's team from TSB in the district league.

Awards

In 1982 Krüger was elected Sportswoman of the Year in Schleswig-Holstein. In the same year she received the sports badge of the state of Schleswig-Holstein from Prime Minister Gerhard Stoltenberg , the highest sporting award in Schleswig-Holstein.

Private

Kirsten Krüger is a bank employee. In December 1984 she married her previous coach Joisp Trupkovic and has since performed under the name Krüger-Trupkovic. She has two children.
