The Rote-Rinn-Scharte is a 2099  m above sea level. A. high mountain crossing in the Kaiser Mountains in the Northern Limestone Alps .

location

The Rote-Rinn-Scharte lies between the Ellmauer Halt (north) and the Kaiserkopf (south). To the west, above the Obere Scharlinger Boden, there is a scree, steep Hochkar with rubble gutters and crags, to the east the terrain falls through a very steep scree gully towards Hochgrubachkar and from there further down to the Gruttenhütte in a grassy and partly overgrown manner .

route

A marked and frequently used path leads from the Wochenbrunneralm in the southeast, past the Gruttenhütte up to the Hochgrubachkar and from there over the Gamssängersteig (via ferrata A / B, point C, normal route to the Ellmauer Halt ) to the rocky connecting ridge of Ellmauer Halt and the Kaiserkopf up (some passages I), shortly before reaching the distinctive saddle of the Gamssängersteig on the west side of the marked route down to the Hans-Berger-Haus (after the 74 iron bars of the Gelbe Jägerwand ) to traverse to the Rote-Rinn-Scharte, as the Gamssängersteig does not directly touch the transition, but leads directly up towards Ellmauer Halt. The transition from this junction to the Rote-Rinn-Scharte is partially insured and defused with iron bars (partially I).

On the west side it then goes steeply over crags and scree through an ever-widening scree channel (here longer insured passages, places also defused with iron stirrups, places I) over the southern branch of the rubble channel dividing on a prominent rock pillar down into the Hochkar Oberer Scharlinger Boden ( there at the lower end of the branch on the east side to the Kaiserschützensteig in the direction of Kleine Halt , Gamshalt and Ellmauer Halt ). From here transition to grassy terrain with mountain pines, over a longer steep step it goes down into the Untere Scharlinger Boden and from there to the Hans-Berger-Haus in the Kaisertal .

From the Hochgrubachkar, the route is exposed over long distances and therefore requires surefootedness, a head for heights and alpine experience. The risk of falling rocks must be observed, so a helmet is important. Beginners should also use a via ferrata set and climbing harness.

The route over the Rote-Rinn-Scharte also serves as an approach from the Gruttenhütte to the Kaiserschützensteig (via ferrata B / C, I) and to ascent the Kaiserkopf .

In winter, the Rote-Rinn-Scharte is also a destination for ski tours from the south side over the Hochgrubachkar .
