Red chemistry building

The “Red Chemistry Building (Polish: Czerwona Chemia , literally “Red Chemistry”) of the Silesian Technical University is a brick building in Gliwice (Gliwice). The building is the seat of the Department of Chemistry and is located at the intersection of Marcina Strzody and Wrocławska Streets, opposite Plac Krakowski . The Gleiwitz mechanical engineering and smelting school, for which this building was built, was located here until 1945 .

The neo-Gothic building was designed by the architect Georg Kuczora and built between 1906 and 1907. Georg Kuczora also designed the Peter and Paul Church .

The building was designed based on buildings from the 14th and 15th centuries. It has a risalite , a stepped gable and a tower. Ceramic elements and colored and glazed bricks were also used to design the brick facade. A detail of the facade is the old coat of arms of Gleiwitz on the tower.

The gray chemistry building , which also belongs to the chemistry department, is adjacent .
