Rotes Vorwerk (Oberwiesenthal)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rote Vorwerk (until 1900 Rothes Vorwerk ) was a popular excursion destination near the health resort Oberwiesenthal in the Free State of Saxony at the foot of the Fichtelberg .

history

The small, red-painted house with barn stood on the apex (dialect "Kepp" for hilltop) of the connecting road from Neudorf to Oberwiesenthal called Vierenstraße at an altitude of 979 meters and was soon called Rotes Vorwerk . The outworks had the distinctive red color so that the carters recognized it as the place where the harness was taken, even in the thick of fog, which often prevailed here.

In 1802 an inn in the Roten Vorwerk is mentioned. The building complex was bought by the businessman Hugo Uhlig from Chemnitz shortly after 1900 and had it rebuilt, enlarged a little and given a turret. Uhlig planned to reopen as a "sports hotel" in August 1911. But on July 5, 1911, he only received the concession to continue the bar operation, not to run a large hotel. Since there was already a sports hotel at the train station in Oberwiesenthal, Uhlig could not use this name either, but had to choose the name " Fremdhof ". The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on September 16, 1911, with completion scheduled for December 1911.

In 1926, the Chemnitz District Association took over the Rote Vorwerk and set up a rest home for children in need at risk of health. Even after 1945 it was still used as a children's home. However, after 1990 it stood empty for several years and was demolished.

tourism

In place of the Roten Vorwerk there is now a free space that can be used as a car parking space for hikes to the Fichtelberg or to Neudorf.
