RotFront (also with the addition: Emigrantski Raggamuffin ) is a Berlin band .

history

The group was founded in 2003 as the Emigrantski Raggamuffin collective RotFront by the Ukrainian Yuriy Gurzhy, who together with Wladimir Kaminer also became known through the Russian disco in Berlin, and the Hungarian Simon Wahorn.

In addition to the main line-up of nine, the number of band members varies, so that sometimes up to 15 people are on stage. The actress and singer Dorka Gryllus used to be a member of the band .

At the TFF Rudolstadt , one of the most important and largest folk festivals in Europe, RotFront awarded the German Ruth World Music Prize in the Global RUTH category in 2010 .

Style and background

The band not only connects the most varied of musical styles such as rock , hip-hop , dancehall , reggae , ska or klezmer , they also bring together musicians of many nationalities.

The band members see themselves as a political music group, which is characterized by its internationality. In addition to the Ukrainian Gurzhy and the Hungarian Wahorn, Germans, Americans, Australians and other Hungarians are or were involved in the band.

On the self-image: "Politics is never sung, but our own example shows how natural and harmonious the exchange between different nationalities, musical styles and cultures can work"
