Rothmar

Rothmar is a villa in the Scottish town of Campbeltown . It is located northeast of the city on High Askomil Road , which continues as the A812 along the east coast of Kintyre . In 1984 Rothmar was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.

Client Villa shipbuilder was William Broom , of the architect John James Burnet pledged for construction. Construction began in 1897. Care was taken to use the best materials. In April 1937, Broom applied for a building permit for a garage, which was added in the same year along with further renovation work by Burnet, Tait & Lorne .

Rothmar is built in the American style above the Campbeltown Loch Bay. The front side is the main wing in the south. This is two-story and equipped with three vertical window axes. On the fourth axis there is a semicircular recess, the windows of which are separated from one another by ionic columns . The window above is framed by blind pillars . The part of the building ends with a hipped roof . The wing extending from the rear of the building is designed asymmetrically with four window axes. There is the tiled entrance area with a canopy supported by Tuscan columns . It is only one story with a converted attic. The short, one-story kitchen wing goes off to the right. The one-story staff wing is to the west. This has five window axes. The attic is lit by dormers. The wing ends with a gable roof . The front is designed asymmetrically with twin windows.
