Map of the district

Rothof is a district of the municipality of Rottendorf in the district of Würzburg , Bavaria . It consists of the hamlets lower, upper and middle Rothof, the latter only being built just before the Second World War .

The name Rothof, first mentioned in a document in 1144, probably means clearing yard. After the Lords of Espenvelt ( Estenfeld ), the Rothof went to Würzburg citizens and then to the Engelgarten Charterhouse . In 1582, Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn acquired the Rothof for his Juliusspital Foundation . After it was previously aligned with Estenfeld in terms of administration, schools and churches, Rothof was incorporated into Rottendorf in 1803. In 1937 families, mainly from Hundsfeld near Hammelburg and Wildflecken , who had lost their fields to military training areas, were resettled and stayed there even after a "Neu-Hundsfelder repopulation program" existed in 1950. In 1958 the church dedicated to Saints Kosmas and Damian was completed.

The connecting road to Rottendorf was an asphalt dirt road with speed restrictions and high repair needs in the 1960s. It was rebuilt about 50 years later south of the old route. There is also a road connection to the Effeldorf district of Dettelbach . The BAB 7 and the Rottendorf - Schweinfurt and Rottendorf - Nuremberg railways are within sight, but not connected.
