Rottalmoss
The Rottalmoos is a raised bog in the Lower Austrian town of Litschau .
The raised bog, which was previously used by the Galthof glassworks for stinging , has been a nature reserve since 1999 . It is located in the area of the cadastral community Schönau near Litschau at around 542 meters above sea level and extends over an area of 10.86 hectares . Several plants endangered according to the Red List grow in the Rottalmoos , including the swamp porst , which belongs to the heather family . For wildlife include Raufuß- and pygmy owl and Softwood saber terror , forest lizards , Brimstone and several species of dragonflies . Black woodpeckers , black storks , eagle owls and long-eared owls feed on them .
The Rottalmoos is also part of the Ramsar protected area of around 13,000 hectares in the Waldviertel pond, moor and river landscape in the Lainsitz catchment area .
