The Rottenweg is a historic path, formerly a mule track , in the Goms district in the Swiss canton of Valais . It leads as a hiking trail from Oberwald to Ernen . It gets its name from the Rhone , which in its upper reaches in Valais is called Rotten or, in dialect, Rottu . The path takes a good six hours to walk and touches the villages of Oberwald, Ulrichen , Reckingen , Niederwald and Ernen.

As Rottenweg also the part of is cycling route Rhone Route called the Goms, the Oberwald about Ernen, Grengiols to Brig leads. With a length of 49 kilometers and its slight difference in altitude of 220 meters between Oberwald and Brig, it has no special requirements.
