Niederwald ( Valais German : Niderwaud [ˌnɪdərˈβɑːu̯t] ) is a village in the municipality of Goms in the Goms district of the Swiss canton of Valais . At the same time, it forms a parish that belongs to the Deanery of Ernen .
history
César Ritz , the founder of the luxury hotels Ritz, was born in Niederwald in 1850. In 1898 he was able to open the Hotel Ritz in Paris as the first of his luxury hotels . Later the Hotel Ritz in London and other hotels in other cities followed. He has found his final resting place in Niederwald with his wife and son.
On January 1, 2017 Niederwald merged with the communities of Blitzingen , Grafschaft , Münster-Geschinen and Reckingen-Gluringen to form the new community of Goms.

Attractions
The parish church of St. Theodul from 1666, the village square with the Caesar-Ritz fountain and the old upper summer houses are well worth seeing .
