Grafschaft [ ˈgrɑːfʃɑft ] was until December 31, 2016 a municipal municipality in the Goms district in the German-speaking part of the Swiss canton of Valais . On January 1, 2017, it merged with the communities of Blitzingen , Münster-Geschinen , Niederwald and Reckingen-Gluringen to form the new community of Goms . Grafschaft also forms a parish belonging to the dean's office in Ernen .

history

The former municipality of Grafschaft was created on January 1, 2001 from the three former municipalities of Biel , Ritzingen and Selkingen . The name for the new municipality was taken from the area of the same name, which describes the landscape between the Walibach near Selkingen to the Reckingerbach and perhaps goes back to the former Counts of Mörel .
