Julius Leopold of Caprivi
Julius Leopold von Caprivi (born August 29, 1695 in Landau , today in Kąty Wrocławskie , Silesia ; † November 8, 1768 in Wernigerode ) was a German archivist , historian and poet of hymns.
Life
He was the son of an Imperial Russian colonel who owned an estate in Landau in Silesia. After he was first court advisor to Count Christoph Friedrich zu Stolberg in Stolberg , he resigned from this office in 1732, as the Count forbade the private gatherings of "awakened souls" in Stolberg in 1732 and Caprivi because of his pietistic tendencies of "deceit, Kötzerey and damnable errors" was accused. He became court advisor, archivist and chancellor in the service of the ruling Count and Pietist Christian Ernst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode and left behind numerous handwritten manuscripts on the history of the County of Wernigerode and the Counts of Stolberg . These are now managed in the Princely Rulership Archives Stolberg-Wernigerode in the State Archives of Saxony-Anhalt . He was also active as a poet of several evangelical hymns.
On October 24, 1750, Caprivi was promoted from the count's office director to chancellor.
His son Christian Friedrich von Caprivi (1743-1821), born in Wernigerode, was appointed ensign in the Tettenborn regiment in April 1763 with the support of Count Christian Friedrich zu Stolberg-Wernigerode.
