The village of Niederernen is now part of the municipality of Ernen and is located in Untergoms in the Swiss canton of Valais .
history
The place is first mentioned in 1292 in connection with the noble "Chuoradus domicellus de Aregno inferioi", who was probably a representative of the noble family von Heimgarten, who lived there around 1300. At the beginning of the 14th century the lords of Attighausen, who owned goods here that were burdened with taxes to the episcopal sovereign, gained influence. These goods and rights of use had been in the possession of Rudolf von Raron since 1374, who acquired them from the von Urnavas family. He sold it together with the high and low jurisdiction in 1404 to Johann Thomas von Platea. A separate community system has been guaranteed since 1469, at that time - in the late Middle Ages - only the lower village nobility of the Grasser and Troller families played a certain role. In the third quarter of the 16th century the local resident Michael Tschampen became governor . The next local citizens in the office of the provincial governor was at the beginning of the 16th century Martin Holzer, whose son Nicholas Holzer even became Governor of Saint-Maurice brought. In the first half of the 17th century, the citizen Johann Matlis became governor of Monthey . The first owner of the banner , Martin Mathlis, was also a local citizen of Niederernen, although in 1631 he built his family's house in Ernen.
In the High Middle Ages , Gütchen Stockene, which is now in the forest, was inhabited all year round.
Only one old house remains from the Z'Brigg settlement today. The father's house of Bishop Walther Supersaxon is said to have stood in this settlement. These settlements together formed Niederernen and until 1872 an independent municipality. It is located south of the Rottens, directly behind the bridge that used to be used to handle all traffic to Goms until the Furka road was built on the right bank of the Rotten.
The municipality of Niederernen joined the Ernen castle in 1872.
It is known that in 1788 new ridges (buildings) burned down, which were not rebuilt. Also in 1880 three houses burned down. Likewise, five houses have been demolished since 1890, which explains the partly patchy development - which is atypical for Goms. After the parish hall was partially burned down, it was converted into a barn in 1900. Only in the 1960s did the district begin to grow again.
