Geschinen ( Valais German [ ˈgeʃ (ː) ənə ]) is a place in the district of Goms in the German-speaking part of the Swiss canton of Valais .

Community merger

Since 2017 it has been part of the Goms municipality .

history

The place is first mentioned in 1327 as Gessinon . The place name goes back to Lombardy cassina , which means "Sennhütte, Alphütte, Meierei, Käserei".

In the avalanche winter of 1999 , a residential building on the eastern edge of the village was destroyed by an avalanche. As a result, the avalanche protection dam was raised with material from the dismantling of the military airfield in Ulrichen . As a result, a lake landscape was created.

Formerly an independent municipal community, it merged with Münster in 2005 to form the Munizipalgemeinde Münster-Geschinen , which in turn has been part of the municipal community of Goms since 2017.
