Roxanne Kimberly Barker (born May 6, 1991 in Pietermaritzburg ) is a South African soccer player .

Career

Barker was born in South Africa, but moved to California with her parents as a child . Her maternal grandfather, Bryan Gilson , was a long-time national player for the South African national polo team.

Barker played soccer for the Southern California Blues Soccer Club in Rancho Capistrano and the Wolfpack Soccer Club of Orange County when she was a teenager .

In 2007 she went to Woodbridge High School in Irvine , California, where she was one of the top performers on the soccerteam for two years. She graduated from high school in 2009 and went to Pepperdine University in the fall of 2009 , where she studied biology until 2012 . At the beginning of 2013 she was signed by the Portland Thorns FC franchise in the fourth round in the fourth round of the college draft of the newly founded NWSL , making her the last player ever to be signed by the Portland Thorns FC franchise , but released again before the start of the season. As a result, Barker played two games for W-League participant Pali Blues in the 2013 season . After two years with the Icelandic first division club Þór / KA , she moved to SC Heerenveen for the 2016/17 season .

National team

Barker was nominated for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London on July 5, 2012 . On July 25, 2012, she started the tournament in London as the goalkeeper of the South African women's national soccer team .
