National Women's Soccer League 2013 / College Draft

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2013 NWSL College Draft was first carried out on January 18, 2013 as part of the annual NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis . Representatives of eight on the first season of NWSL participating franchises were able to college players take under contract in four rounds.

process

The eight participating franchises were brought into a fixed draft order in advance of the event, which all teams had to agree to. The basis for this order was the assumed playing strength of the players assigned to them within the framework of the NWSL Player Allocation . In contrast to original considerations, this order was kept unchanged in each draft round. The club representatives had three minutes to think about in the first two rounds and five minutes each in the last two rounds.

consequences

None of the franchises involved made use of the option to swap players with one another immediately after the draft was over.

Most of the players (four) came from the University of Florida team , the Florida Gators. On the other hand, three players came from the Florida State University team , the Florida State Seminoles. Among the 32 signed players were Adrianna Franch , Taylor Vancil , Ashley Baker , Haley Kopmeyer and Roxanne Barker, five goalkeepers.

After completing the college draft, the NWSL teams had a squad of eleven players, seven of them from the NWSL Player Allocation . In order to increase the team squad, up to four players without a contract (so-called free agents ) remained, and the so-called supplemental draft was held at the end of the squad planning .

Amber Brooks signed a contract with Bayern Munich in January and moved to Germany before the start of the season in the NWSL. Whitney Berry and Jackie Logue were also released from their clubs in March 2013 before the first game of the season to make room for further signings in the squad.
