The Pepperdine University is a private university in Malibu in Los Angeles County , State of California . The college belongs to the religious community of Christ's Churches . In 2010 about 7,700 students were enrolled. Until 2008, the university campus served as a location for the youth series " Zoey 101 ".

In 1937 the George Pepperdine College was founded. After this was severely affected by the Watts riots in 1965, Pepperdine University moved to Malibu in 1972 and left the south side of Los Angeles to the increasingly African-American population. With the establishment of the Law Faculty in 1971, Pepperdine received university status. In more recent times, the university has attracted attention as a stronghold of the evangelical movement: Laura Schlessinger was Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University for eight years , and James Dobson received an honorary doctorate here.

Ranking

In the university rankings, Pepperdine was named the 58th best university for undergraduate education and 55th best law school by the US News & World Report . The Princeton Review included Pepperdine in 2004 and 2007 in a list of colleges that have "Dorms Like Palaces" (dormitories like palaces) . In 2006 and 2007 it also received the “Most Beautiful Campus” award. Pepperdine also received ratings such as “Students pray regularly” and “High quality of life”. Because of its evangelical orientation, many claim that the student body exudes a religiously and politically conservative atmosphere. The 2005 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges also listed Pepperdine as one of the largest conservative colleges in the USA. A study by Harvard University, on the other hand, comes to the conclusion that the university's law school is the most ideologically balanced among the 50 most important institutions of this type in the USA, since almost the same number of professors describe themselves as left ("liberal") or conservative.

Sports

The sports teams are the waves . The university is a member of the West Coast Conference . The swimming pool, the Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool , hosted the 1984 Summer Olympics water polo tournament in Los Angeles.
