The Roxsters (also Roxters ) were an American rock 'n' roll and rockabilly group from Florida .
Career
The Roxsters have played in the West Palm Beach , Florida area since 1957. Don Ward and Jerry Johnson started out as a duo, but soon after began looking for other musicians. They were one of the first rock and roll bands in their region. Like many other groups in the Miami area, they played a fuller sound, shaped by the drums and aggressive solos of the lead guitarists. At times, other musicians such as the drummer Chuck Irwin and the saxophonist Guy Brown played in the band.
In August 1958, their only single appeared on Art Records from Miami . The A-side So Long was a mid-tempo rock and roll number, while Goodbye Baby featured a guitar intro most influenced by ska . In addition to some unreleased tapes, the Roxsters also served as a background group at the end of 1957, Wesley Hardin , who did not have a band of his own.
In 1960 Keith MacKendrick switched to the Apollos, who recorded for Mercury Records , but later joined the Champs . In the 1980s MacKendrick played in a country band in West Palm Beach. His son also started a career as a musician. The Roxsters likely broke up in the late 1950s.
