Roy Larson Raymond (born April 15, 1947 in Connecticut , † August 26, 1993 in Marin County , California ) was an American businessman and founder of Victoria's Secret .

Life

After attending Stanford Graduate School of Business and Tufts University , Raymond opened the first Victoria's Secret store in Palo Alto in 1977 . The first catalog was printed in 1978. He had to borrow $ 80,000 to do this, but his income while serving as President of Victoria's Secret is estimated at $ 6 million. In 1982 he sold the company with six branches for one million US dollars to Les Wexner . In 1984 he opened the My Child's Destiny children's clothing store . However, two years later the company went bankrupt .

On August 26, 1993, aged 46, Raymond committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge . His body was found five days later in San Francisco Bay .
