Roy de Roy is a Viennese band that was founded in 2008 by the two musicians Nikolaj Efendi and Matej Ček. Their sound is shaped by the music of Eastern Europe, but the group combines elements of punk , folk and rock . Four of the band members are members of the Carinthian Slovenes minority, which is also reflected in the lyrics of the band, which with a few exceptions are performed in Slovenian. Most of them deal with political and social conditions.

In their songs they portray a society in upheaval and criticize a.o. a. patriotic aspirations, the fortress of Europe and how it deals with asylum seekers as well as fascism & nationalism. Likewise, in the debut album Bohemian Bolsheviks , the band addresses Yugoslavia's coming to terms with the past, which is why the band was associated with Yugon nostalgia, which the band members deny.

When asked about her political commitment, singer Nikolaj Efendi said in an interview:

“[...] we are anarchists. But that does not mean that we want chaos, we just want to suggest a lack of domination. Induce a rethink for a new social system. "

The band has been under contract with the Viennese indie label Las Vegas Records since 2013. Roy de Roy play more and more in Western Europe and toured in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, England, Portugal, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina. The band has been on tour with their album Civil Riots since November 2013 . The highlights of the tour were festival appearances such as at the Dutch Lowlands Festival and the International Jazz Festival Saalfelden .
